This is some OLD shit so most of you probably wont be able to help. I have recently modded my Nintendo Wii with Homebrew, and noticed some people have custom Wii Menus. I looked up some tutorials, and got the .csm file and the channel installed on homebrew. I did everything right, at least I think I did, but when I load MyMenu it gives me a blank screen. Wii mote freezes, so you have to power off the console via unplugging. I have re-done this 3 times, blank screen every time. I have the 4.3u menu version. Please help, my wii menu looks plain and naked compared to others.

I'm not sure how active they still are, but GBATemp.net used to have a ton of information on Wii softmodding, including pretty much anything and everything you'd want to do with Homebrew. I'm showing a lot of posts in the past week, maybe search through their forums for a file someone else has posted or, if that turns up empty, ask a question. They know a hell of a lot more about what you want to do than I do. I just wanted my Wii to load games off USB...

Win2K on a LAN Anonymous 17/01/13(Fri)19:02 No. 22430 ID: 1ddc06 [Reply]

I have to retype this because of an error :(

I have made a Win2K virtual machine to run as a retro PC game host on a LAN... because it's half the size of XP, that's why!

Okay, I created a shared folder called "test share", but when I try to access it from other machines (XP and 7) the folder is visible but I get the "x is not accessible, you might not have permissions etc" error. I have enabled the Guest account in Advanced User Management, and there are no firewalls involved, but I can't seem to recall what else involved here because it's been so fucking long since I last did this! And this is the point where I need /halp/.

Op here... nvm, I found it.

Turns out that I had to add Guest to the permissions list directly, even after enabling it. I seem to recall that it was supposed to do that automatically (which may or may not be a wise idea), but doing this one folder at a time could easily become an annoyance, albeit an annoyance that I'm willing to handle.

Turn off simple file sharing, which makes you use usernames & passwords to connect to shares. So long as the account you login with on each system uses the same name & password you won't have to bother with typing anything. Otherwise you type the name & password and you're in.

7 also needs to be switched back to 40/56-bit encryption vs. 128-bit. You'll also want to disable homegroup but since you have XP hopefully you've already done that.

Also XP and 7 need to be at least Pro, the Home versions can only network with other home versions. 2000 and earlier only had "pro" networking, Home was an abortion created for XP.

There's two sets of permissions, the share permissions, which control who can access the share, and the file permissions, which control who can access the files. If you had added guest to the share permissions you would need to still add guest to the file permissions, otherwise it would be able to connect but not actually read any files.

As far as file permissions go you can enable inheritable permissions on child objects, which means you set the permissions on test share, then set all the items in test share to inheritable, and they all use the same permissions set in one spot (test share).

replacing speaker with 1/4" jack chrissychris 16/12/20(Tue)01:04 No. 22414 ID: cc91cb [Reply]

Alrighty, I am looking for some help.

For the sake of experimentation and fun, I'd like to replace the speaker of a shitty kids toy (very similar to the one in the pic) with a 1/4" audio jack so it can play through a larger amp, possibly even through guitar effect pedals.

I've already tried this twice. Taken apart the toy, soldered in a 1/4" jack, and plugged it in. Both times I ended up with a reallyyyy spotty and quiet sound. At first I thought it may be a bad soldering job, but now I feel like it could be due to the low power of the toy, it takes 3 AA batteries.

So what's the deal here? Any ideas what could be wrong?

I figured it probably had a voltage difference, not really amperage. Measure it with a multimeter, if it's less than .3V or more than 2V then you need to adjust the voltage to match the line level input you're using.

You can see a simple circuit for connecting a speaker level output, used by PAs and other amps, to line level input here:
http://www.epanorama.net/circuits/speaker_to_line.html

But ultimately since you're talking about a nonstandard speaker output you need to measure the output to figure out what its putting out so you can adapt it to the line input standard.

Can you make the device to produce a constant tone so you can take multimeter readings?

If so, then please provide the voltage across the internal speaker and its current on maximum volume. Use true RMS setting for these measurements. You may substitute the current reading if the speaker has its ohms marked, then you may report that instead.

Also, are you planning to interface this with a guitar preamp? In that case the output impedance should be matched to that of a pick-up, rather than line level.

Hello /halp/

I have a bit of an interesting predicament:

I bought an ASUS T100TA from my friend. I reset everything on it, made a new local user account (read: not attached to micro$oft networks) then put it down. A few weeks later I go to boot into it, and have now forgotten my password.

I have no installation media for it, and thus no recovery disk. It is not tied to a Microsoft Live account, so I cannot reset the password that way either. I went to go boot into safe mode as a last ditch attempt to just hard reset the whole thing, but whomever the prior owner was (probably not my friend, he says he has no idea what it is but I suspect he had some shit on here he wants NOBODY to see) had the drive encrypted with BitLocker, so it requests a BitLocker drive encryption key.

What the fuck do I do to regain access? Beat my friend over the head with it until he complies?

Are these sorts of ligth sets always straight parallel wired?

Asking because I assumed series connection and wanted to put two sets in series to work on 230 V, but if the bulbs are 120 V, that doesn't work.

These:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-Noma-Christmas-7-String-BUBBLE-LITES-Lights-/112182531954?hash=item1a1e999772:g:8CoAAOSwA3dYEMCE

For future reference: "Noma" bubble lights.

Btw. The series wired sets usually used the kind of bulbs that had that internal shunt thing that would add hot filament's worth of resistance and bypass the broken filament.

>>
Anonymous 16/11/05(Sat)01:14 No. 22265 ID: aae91a

Oh the seller told the set uses 110 V bulbs.

Maybe some did, but my gut reaction is that the cheapest sets don't include any such frills, because I was the redheaded stepchild tasked with putting together working sets of Christmas lights every goddamn year when I was growing up, and those things sure as hell didn't include anything of the sort.

Lately I've been periodically involved with Christmas decorations (more correctly involved when problems arise) and these newer strings are similarly wired in series without any filament. But my workplace is known for buying the cheapest item so they may have found their sets at garage sales for all I know.
