Orion Pax, Ariel and Dion are THE FIRST WAVE of NEW DEFENDERS.
Therefor they all get designations regarding their STATUS as being the FIRST wave of new defenders:

Orion Pax is Optimus PRIME
Ariel is Elita ONE
Dion is Sentinel PRIME

All 3 are warriors who are chosen to lead Autobot factions.
When A-3 reconstructed Dion into Sentinel Prime he also bequeathed him the Matrix of Leadership.
(A-3 got it from a previous Prime)
This is the reason why Optimus Prime did not have it in his chest in season 1 and 2.
