Personally, I wouldn't be listening to music in any situation *while taking ZOMBIES out* because if I had head phones on with blasting music, I would have my sense of hearing impaired and thus would be endangered if a zombie came up from behind or if a structure (door, car alarm, what have you) goes off or breaks behind me...

Now, if listening to music afterwards; say I'm traveling in a vehicle of some kind from point A to point B, trying to survive, or keeping busy while boosting defenses in my camp / hold-up, then head phones applied and I'd rock out - but that's a different story than what is asked, "What music would you want playing in the background while you're decapitating zombies and/or blowing them to bits?"

... I'd want all my senses at my disposal, and I'll sacrifice music for a short time to survive!

You make a good point. Most of the time fighting zombies you don't want to have your hearing impaired, and truthfully you aren't going to be out slaying bodies in a HSLD manner as much as you think. The zombie apocalypse will not be like a IRL FPS were you are out cooking with gas with a handful of vertebrae and head full of mad. A person would mostly be avoiding zombies to survive, doing any killing either up close with a melee weapon like a bat or far away with a scoped rifle. The people who go out on Z-Day like a berserker packing man and half who thinks there is nothing wrong with zombies they can't fix with their hands (well chainsaws, katanas, automatic weapons and other weapons that are useless or will be rendered useless very quickly) are going to die very swift and probably messy deaths when they are out of ammo with a broken melee weapon knee deep in the dead (the very hungry dead I might add).

Now maybe music would be good when you are sitting still in a well stocked survivor fortress popping off zombies with others, just defending the place or if its a lost stand sort of thing where you are pretty positive you are going to day. The first you aren't really fighting for your life, pretty much just keeping the dead away from you perimeter and can afford to juice up a bit with some hardcore fighting music and with the second it doesn't matter if your hearing is impaired. Baring some sort of miracle or 11th hour rescue, you are fucked and might as well try to take as many assholes with you as possible.
