If we could properly determine spheres of influence in our modern world (be it cultural, political, or economic), how would you put it in map form? How do you perceive modern spheres of influence?

Some of these spheres come in political organizations (like the Iron Curtain countries in the USSR's SoI), or somethimes spheres are more abstract, and are groups within larger organizations (western Slavic countries - and most countries within the EU - being in Germany's sphere - especially economically)

For example the UK is at the top of the Commonwealth of Nations, while also a member of the EU - though not included in the Euro-zone (currency), and not the Schengen visa area either. They have a "personal relationship" with the US, etc. etc. Though I wonder, are they really a player in the game of spheres? (sorry, I couldn't resist)

For example you also see Chinese business ventures in Africa and it immediately reminds me of playing a great power in Vicky2, slowly increasing my influence in one of those minor countries- though of course, real life political matters are even more complicated.

Would you suggest a different analogy for understanding influence than spheres?

I've heard Canada is being pretty silent when it comes to the power game, while it is one of the players in the middle east. Of course, being silent is a good idea so you don't come under much flak from the international community.
