There was an older type of 3D where the image had to be constantly moving for the effect to work. (And, I think that if you weren't wearing the glasses, the image still looked "normal".)
Only thing I ever saw that was done that was was an old Doctor Who special "Dimensions in Time" that was done for the charity event Children in Need back in the 90s. Camera was constantly circling around the characters all the time, so that if you were wearing the glasses you could get the 3D effect.
