So I noticed /f/, newgrounds, and swfchan are all having discussions about what they intend to do about the death of flash.

Do we care about having our own?

won't there always be .swf files?

unless they intend to go backward and remove all support for .swf files.

There will always be external flash players, so I'm not too concerned. But if web browsers start not supporting it anymore, it should deal a big blow to the extension.

death of flash support is ≠ death of flash.

ActionScript 1 support ended a LONG time ago, yet many users still use/prefer it.

flash creation will continue. projectors will continue to work long after 'support' has ended.

if you are in a panic, maybe you need to be.

you probably meant to say ActionScript 2, i've not seen anyone use only AS1 in the last 10 years. the situations are not comparable either, AS1 is baked into the AS2 interpreter so support for it was never ended. you could keep using AS1/AS2 inside flash and nobody would even notice.

meanwhile companies deciding for us that we shouldn't be able to enjoy flash online is a vastly different beast. personally i will be switching to a browser that allows me to keep playing swf files online if i want to. i'm not about to allow anybody to force me to change my internet after 20 years.

yes, actionscript 2 is what i meant.

if you want to swap browsers, check out Pale Moon. it feels like old school Firefox(pre V30+)
you know before it became a chrome wannabe POS.

Oh man, actionscript2 is how I learned Flash. My animations were about as crappy as any 2000's era flash junk. Maybe worse. Yeah, probarbly worse.

When I later started a formal education in animation/design I had to learn AS3, which was relatively new at the time and I was completely unfamiliar with it but I was ensured it was the future of Flash. I still kept on using AS2 for personal projects.

Oh how trivial it all seems now.
