Quite deliberate. The narrator is telling things from his perspective, and since he knows who he is and the audience (in-story) knows who he is, names are unnecessary. I threw that in partly so the readers could put a face on him, and partly to show how serious this moment is in the story.

It's not the only significant thing that's going to happen with names in the story, but that's for later.
